The story starts with grown versions of Hazel and Ben and winds itself back to their childhood. It isn't a pretty journey, in the woods, nor at home. But Hazel and Ben make the best of things and find their happiness in the stories they weave about the boy in the glass coffin, the boy they both love. I can understand escaping into stories, especially fantasy. But their faeries are real.
The book is organized in an odd way. The plot isn't really solidified until much later than expected in the novel. The beginning is just establishing the world and exploring into the lives of the main characters. The plot moves forward and then there's intermittent flashbacks to show why characters are the way they are or background on what's presently happening. If you hate stories jumping around, this wouldn't be for you, but I enjoyed it. Things became clear the more the flashbacks happened and it just shows Holly Black's writing skill. The revelations are doled out carefully and bring clarity to the story. I really enjoyed the journey and exploration through Holly Black's unique world. I hope another book is in the works in the same world (because I would be all over it), but it works very well as a stand alone novel.Vond je dit een nuttige review?70 -

Leuk en spannend geschreven verhaal (voor jong-volwassenen) met een dappere ridder, haar vervloekte/gezegende broer en een mysterieus feeënrijk in een bos naast een gewoon klein plaatsje in Amerika.

Het verhaal is geschreven op een manier waardoor je het boek maar niet neer kan leggen. Ik wou steeds verder blijven lezen en weten wat er vervolgens ging gebeuren, en antwoorden op de mysteries uit het verhaal. Het is erg goed geschreven en het leest heel fijn. De karakters waren heel divers en de plot van het verhaal was erg gaaf.
